Rural Habitat

Pranab Basak

First Prize

Rural Habitat impressed me because of it's composition. It's subjects, two colourfully dressed females, are prominently positioned and in a pose showing them absorbed in interacting with each other. The warmth and depth of their relationship seems clear. Their surroundings are also complementary, being colourfully decorated with artwork and being of a size and style that conveys a sense of domesticity, of being their home.

Streets of Home

Giti Mostaed

Second Prize

Streets of Home is a very powerful image that, because of it's subject is both hard to look at but even harder to ignore. The photographer has skillfully and respectfully concentrated our attention on the marginalised family in a way that will evoke sympathy for their plight. The two females who dominate the image convey so clearly the hardship of street life for poor families. This is a very sad state of affairs that only the most hard-hearted could ignore and would not wish to see changed.

Framed in Heritage

Gurdas Dua

Third Prize

Framed in Heritage is an image I found full of beauty and character. It features two smiling and beautifully dressed young women looking at each other, whilst standing closely in the window of a wooden domestic building that exudes character. This combination strongly conveys a sense of warmth of their relationship and the happiness of their home.
