With 226 entries, this was a daunting competition to judge. There were quite a number of images that, to me at least, the entrant failed to produce an image or images that met the theme. These were easy to eliminate. I went through the large number that remained, eliminating images that I felt were less strong. When I got to the last 40 images, this is where things started to get difficult. A large number of these, which I had to discard, certainly met the theme in a strong way, but I had to be ruthless in order to get to my final ten. I have ended up with a 1-2-3 and in addition, seven Highly Commended images.

I have been interested in photography since I was 16 or 17 in the early 1970s. During the days of film in the 70s, 80s, and 90s I was a keen darkroom worker.
These days, it is all digital and I use Olympus/OM System equipment. I enjoy many genres of photography but my favourites are Architecture, Abstract and Landscape. I am always looking out for unusual or off-beat subjects to photograph. I prefer to keep my subjects simple.
I enjoy club photography and I am involved in the running of Cwmbran Photographic Society here in South East Wales. I have been a Welsh Photographic Federation judge since around 2000. Judging has taken me to most of the clubs in South East Wales and I thoroughly enjoy seeing the work of other photographers and to critique their images.
