Originally from Strabane in Northern Ireland, I have been lucky enough to live and travel to all sorts of places with my work.
Now I travel for pleasure and document my travels. I look back now and wonder why it took me so long to come to photography in a serious way as I have been to some truly wonderful places taking no more than snaps. Having done my own developing and enlarging of black and white prints, inspiration came with the urgent need to photograph a family occasion in 2006 when I bought my first digital camera and from then started taking images in anger.
I now photograph all genres and recent trips to Southern Africa, Namibia and Norway have broadened my palette further and seriously stretched my photographic muscles, skills and creativity.
I have been, and still am, a member of camera clubs in England Wales and Australia. I am a qualified judge and have judged in England, Wales, Scotland and Australia. I thoroughly enjoy judging and having the opportunity to both view and assess another’s work is a privilege and a responsibility I do not undertake lightly. I enjoy art in all it’s forms; paintings, sculpture, architecture, graffiti and so on and reference this in my own compositions and my judging.
Friendship is so important to us as individuals – but also sadly too often missed between cultures, religions, social classes, countries, sports teams – a very thought-provoking theme. I look forward to seeing your entries.
Post Judging Update:
I was both excited and honoured to be asked to judge The Photographic Angle ‘Friendship’ competition. Thank you.
You did not disappoint and submitted a wide range of high quality images – thus making my job quite difficult (in a good and interesting way)
What does ‘Friendship’ mean? The definition I used – ‘Friendship is a close relationship between two or more people who care about and support each other. It is built on trust, honesty, and mutual respect. Friends often share common interests and experiences, and enjoy spending time together’.
So I was looking for images in which Friendship is obvious and where the photographer has used their skill to capture and demonstrate the theme.
There were many excellent images to go through, but my final selection is featured above.
