Capturing Culture

The concept of culture is closely linked with identity, and for populations around the world it is culture that helps to define them and give them a sense of belonging.

The beliefs, values and behaviours that distinguish one group of people from another are some of the fascinating differences that make the human race so unique.

This exhibition features images that depict these specific differences and peculiarities. They highlight traditions from many countries, through mediums such as, food, local customs and values to social conventions, local celebrations, recreational activities, social structure and religion.

Each photographer has managed to capture the essence of culture; some have captured celebratory images where food is the central subject, some have produced documentary-style images which tell a story and are designed to produce some sort of emotion from the viewer, others have captured a glimpse into the daily lives of specific people.
These insightful, colourful, soulful images will capture the imagination and will stay with the viewer long after they have left the exhibition.
