We are looking for images that define ‘Contrast’ in the most obscure and creative fashion.
Black and white, highs and lows, lush populated landscapes next to dry deserted trees send us your photographs that show contrast in all its forms. As with all this year’s themes we are asking you to look at the environment around us.

Competition Judge

Steve Cox

Steve Cox was discovered by TPA judging work at Reflex Camera club Bristol. His passion for photography, technical and artistic judgment balanced by truly constructive criticism places him perfectly as a TPA judge. Steve is a photographer himself and a medal winner at the London Salon. Of himself he states modestly that he is a semi-pro specializing in vintage & retro photography. By day Steve is also a Vice President at one of the world's largest enterprise software companies. We're happy to have him on board and looking forward to going through the 'Contrast' submissions with him.

Matthew Sarker Niloy

Joy with Water

First Prize

A masterful use of negative space and Caravaggio-style lighting. The image uses a simple colour palette to convey dramatic the contrast of the swimmer leaping out of nothingness into the image. Water splashes by the swimmers side, droplets sparkle caught by the photographers flash. Hard to improve on what for me is the perfect image.

Luc Kordas

Sahara Walks

Second Prize

Sometimes you think you've seen every "people on sand dune" shot that has ever been taken then suddenly a photographer springs a surprise. The undulating sable dunes with their black ridged tops make a wonderful image in themselves but then, then your eyes are drawn to the walkers, silhouetted in the evening sun. In the wrong place for many I know but not for me. Their presence adds a mystery that is almost irresistible.

Rohit Saha

Untitled

Third Prize

Superb candid shot in true Capa-style from Rohit Saha. Contrasting the prayers for peace and tranquillity with the profile of the military guardian. Part artwork, part commentary, all truth. An example of a hard to capture moment, captured well and with a real feeling for the subject.
